I'm really sorry you had such a problem, but you must admit that if you had read what you were agreeing to before you signed up instead of after, the problem would have never existed. It clearly stated that it was a subscription, because I have turned down that offer many times.

On the other hand, I have made hundreds of dollars from similar programs. My brightest discovery was when I found one program that once I completed enough offers to earn one credit, I turned on a stream of $40 payments that keep coming without me doing any more offers.

So you see, there's two sides to every story.

Hi, I may have some information that might be helpful:
~ First is your husband a disabled veteran?? If he is there is a program called the Vocational Rehabilitation Program - It is a WONDERFUL program through the VA that will pay him to go to school on top of any grants or scholarships he may be recieving. This program pays 100% of books, fees, tuition, supplies, and provides a nontaxable subsistance allowance that is pretty much a paycheck for attending school at least half time. (The more you attend the more you get paid.) Here is the site with more information on it: http://www.vba.va.gov/bln/vre/index.htm
I went through this and was able to get a BA in midlevel education. It really helps veterans' families financially when the veteran is attending school.
~ Second, the VA has seminars and workshops for veterans who want to start a small business. These provide you with contact information on how to obtain certain types of loans. Here is the site for more information on the VetBiz program: http://www.vetbiz.gov/
http://www.vetbiz.gov/landstart.htm

I really hope this information helps. I know you are not the veteran, but if your husband can be a partner in this process it will go a lot easier. Good luck!!

Hi,
I've found something that I'm really happy with!!
(International is fine, too.)

It's not get rich quick, but it will quietly run in the background until it's ready to truly support you & your family with a real income. (Doesn't take long, though.)

I really recommend this!

Yahoo frowns upon links here in the Q & A section, so if you would just click on my profile, you will see it there.

Blessings to you in 2007!!

There is no such grant, as you yourself just found out. As to loans, your prospects don't look good. Unless you are willing to offer your house as collateral (or plan to use the loan to purchase tangible long-lived assets), no one is going to lend to you. Your best bet is to find an investor willing to buy equity in your company, but those are few and far between...

You might qualify for an SBA microloan:

http://www.sba.gov/services/financialassistance/sbaloantopics/microloans/

but there are only seven lenders in the entire Texas that particilate in this program. There may or may not be one in your immediate vicinity...

You were not able to find a grant because there are NO grants for starting a business.

It is hard to find grants to start a business. Unlike the myths that some perpetuate, federal government and even private foundations hardly give grant money for a for-profit business.

Nonetheless, you can go to the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) http://www.cfda.gov and Grants.gov http://www.grants.gov - these are two sites created by the federal government to provide transparency and information on grants. Browse through the CFDA listings and see if you can find any grant that would support a for-profit venture.

Even SBA does NOT give out grants. From the SBA website http://www.sba.gov/mostrequesteditems/CON_FAQ2.html

"The U.S. Small Business Administration does not offer grants to start or expand small businesses, although it does offer a wide variety of loan programs. (See http://www.sba.gov/financing for more information) While SBA does offer some grant programs, these are generally designed to expand and enhance organizations that provide small business management, technical, or financial assistance. These grants generally support non-profit organizations, intermediary lending institutions, and state and local governments."

Here is a listing of federal grants for small businesses. See if there is any available for individuals for starting a business -- THERE'S NONE.
http://12.46.245.173/pls/portal30/CATALOG.BROWSE_BENEF_RPT.show

Most of the federal grants are given to specific target groups with specific requirements (e.g. minority business owners involved in transportation related contracts emanating from DOT - Grant#20.905 Disadvantaged Business Enterprises Short Term Lending Program

Grants are also often given to non profit groups or organizations involved in training or other similar activities (grant 59.043 Women's Business Ownership Assistance that are given to those who will create women's business center that will train women entrepreneurs

I suggest you read the following books to get ideas of how to finance your business:

Financing Your Small Business http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1572484500/powerhomebizguid
Small Business Financing: How and Where To Get It http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0808007386/powerhomebizguid
Financing the Small Business: A Complete Guide to Obtaining Bank Loans and All Other Types of Financing http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1580626815/powerhomebizguid
The SBA Loan Book http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/158062202X/powerhomebizguid
Angel Capital : How to Raise Early-Stage Private Equity Financing http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0471690635/powerhomebizguid
Financing Your Small Business (Barron's Business Library Series) http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0764124897/powerhomebizguid

For private grants, you may want to check the Foundation Center's Foundation Grants for Individuals Online http://gtionline.fdncenter.org . It's a subscription based website ($9.95 per month) but their opening blurb only says that the database is ideal for "students, artists, academic researchers, libraries and financial aid offices." Entrepreneurs are apparently not one of them, so I take it they also don't have listings of private foundations who give grants to would-be entrepreneurs.

As for a "loan that doesn't have to be paid back right away," banks or even the SBA will not give you such terms. Ask your family and friends to lend you money.

Check out selling things online through established sites such as Amazon or Ebay. You can pick things up at garage sales or flea markets on weekends and then list/package them in the evenings. You could also create items to sell such as jewelry or clothing. By using an established site, you don't have to set up your own online store or market it.

Do you have a cell phone with three way calling and a lap top to take with you to share presentations through e mail?

While you are in traffic, you can do your calls. When in between dinner and dealing with your children, you can focus on building a legal and moral business that makes other peoples lives better.

All this can be done part time around your family and you can establish enough income to get out of debt and then save.

I did this while taking care of my children and other moms supporting me when I was new until I became as good as they are.

I did it, so you can too.
